My Story
Meet the Teacher
Hello, my name is Miss Tammy and I am the founder of The Learning Nest Preschool. As a young child, I always knew I loved working with children. For many years, I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher, but my goals changed as I grew older. My sister had children and they became like my own. I loved having sleep overs and taking them places, being the fun aunt and babysitting whenever needed.
At the age of 19 I began working in a daycare center in Bellefontaine, Ohio. We also offered a morning preschool program. This was the best time of the day! I remember all of those children so fondly. They became such an important part of my life and would shape my future as a mother and now as a preschool teacher.
Shortly after moving from Ohio to Virginia, I began my Early Childhood Education. When I was expecting my first child, I became sick with listeria food poisoning and had to put my education on the back burner. Not long after my first child was born in 1999, I moved to my husband's home town of Norwich, Ontario, Canada and have been here ever since. I now have seven amazing children. In September 2018, when my youngest was 18 months old, I started full time daycare in my home. I loved teaching the children and being a part of their lives but, as my own family was growing and changing, the demanding schedules of full time daycare was no longer working for our family. I also realized I wanted a more focused experience for the children in my care. That was when I decided I wanted to open my home preschool. The Learning Nest Preschool was opened in September 2019.
As a mom of seven, I have had children with any personality one can expect. Having my home daycare not only expanded my experience with young children but reminded me how much I loved working at that very first preschool so many years ago.
I am always learning and researching the best practices and ways to make my preschool work for each child. One of the highlights of having a home preschool has been watching my own youngest son gain friendships and experiences his siblings never had at this age.
I look forward to the future and being a part of your little learners life.
